Lapbooking (1) - My Father's Dragon

I learned about lapbooking and started looking for resources on the internet.. This is a great site which I got my materials printed out from. The end result did not look exactly like a lapbook, I merely binded the A4 construction papers using a couple of fasteners, and it looked like a booklet instead.

YuHan started reading My Father's Dragon in June 2012. She didn't really enjoy the previous series (The Cobble's Street Cousins) so we stopped at book 2 and picked My Father's Dragon as her daily (almost) reading book.

The cover page.

I randomly printed some materials from the homeschool webpage. Each time we read together, I let Yu Han work on the worksheets (coloring, cutting, writing). These activities enticed her to continue reading... Writing is one activity she dreads though...

Page 1, two pictures.
Left - Tangerine tree. This is the only picture not from the homeschool webpage. We got this from Singapore Art Museum. She counted the number of tangerines on the tree and there was 12. I taught her that 12 makes a dozen. (Math & Vocabulary)
Right - Elmer's Knapsack. This is the first activity that she began with. It is interesting as the 'bag' can hold all the items that Elmer brought with him to the wild island. So each time we read about how Elmer tricked the animals, we will take the items out and role play. It makes learning fun!

Page2, three pictures.
Left - Rhinoceros. There's a toothbrush in the pocket, where she wrote the answer to "Why was the rhino crying" on. (Comprehension)
Middle - Lion. An accordion on lion facts. (General Knowledge/Science)
Right - Gorilla. (Comprehension)

Page 3.
Top - Seven Terrible Tigers!
There are 3 questions to it. How many mean green eyes, how many snarling mouths, and how many fast legs... Yu Han drew 7 tigers on another note book, gave them eyes, nose, mouth, whiskers, body and legs... and answered the questions... (Math)

Bottom - Crocodile / Crossing the River.
Towards the end of the book, she somehow lost a bit of interest and refused to write any further. We pasted the 17 crocodiles strips and she drew lollipops on each of the crocodiles tails...

This is our first lapbook project. :)
Will rest for a while before starting a new lapbook again!
